CLASS DETAILS:
Timed to take advantage of Bernheim’s beautiful spring bloom, this workshop puts you into direct communication with one of the world’s most acclaimed nature photographers in Kentucky’s most beautiful spring landscape. In this two-day intensive workshop targeting advanced beginner to serious photographers you will learn techniques to capture the essence of floral macro-photography with your digital camera. The workshop will also include training in “after capture” photo editing techniques.
Through lectures, field sessions, review critiques and individual consultations you will learn to:
• Understand the difference between “beautiful” and “photogenic”
• Make the best use of natural light throughout the day
• Learn techniques in composition, line, shape and texture
• Control sharpness and detail
• Achieve precise focus and controlled depth of field
• Establish a sense of place and mood matched to your mind’s eye
• Use innovative after capture techniques
• Use appropriate macro lenses, extension tubes and macro flash attachments
The workshop will culminate with a presentation and review of your photographs as well as a discussion on after-capture techniques that can improve your final image. TOP
ABOUT ALLEN ROKACH:
Allen Rokach has spent more than thirty years traveling the world on outdoor photography assignments for publications and corporate clients. His special love and expertise in nature, garden and flower photography was nurtured during twelve years as staff photographer and Director of Photography at The New York Botanical Garden and ten years as a Senior Photographer at Southern Living Magazine. With his wife, Anne Millman, Allen co-authored scores of articles and eight books on photography including the award-winning Focus on Flowers: Discovering and Photographing Beauty in Gardens and Wild Places. Mr Rokach takes beautiful and often haunting photographs that convey a sense of place while capturing the essence of nature. Allen has taught workshops all over the world including the International Center of Photography, the Santa Fe Photo Workshop, the Chicago Botanic Garden and his own Center for Nature Photography. EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
• Preferred: Digital SLR with macro lens, extension tubes or screw-on close-up lenses
• Also possible: A “point and shoot” with a macro function
• Back-up camera (if possible)
• A flash unit that can be fired off camera (needs a remote flash cord)
• A tri-pod (preferably one that allow low to ground mounting)
• Lenses that cover the range from 18-200 mm
• Polarizing filters for each lens
• Sufficient memory cards CF or SD large and fast enough for hours
of uninterrupted JPEG shooting.
• PREFERRED: Laptop computer and card reader to download images from camera
to computer
• USB flash drive or “memory stick” for transferring images
• Extra batteries for camera and flash
• Manuals for your equipment
• Be prepared for weather [In case of rain consider plastic bags and rubber bands
to cover your equipment. Hotel shower caps work well for this. Rain poncho,
waterproof bags proper shoes, etc.]
• Knee pads (optional)
• A small towel for drying the camera.
