The following regulations apply for group picnics:
|
Group Picnics Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest was established in 1929 when Louisville philanthropist and distiller Isaac W. Bernheim purchased this property as a most generous and visionary gift to the people of Kentucky. The property opened to the public in 1951 and since that time millions of visitors have enjoyed Bernheim’s renowned arboretum, forest preserve, visitor center, picnic areas, hiking trails and lakes. The Group Picnic Area is located in the Magruder Picnic Area. There are enough picnic tables to accommodate up to 70 people. This area is separated from other visitor picnicking. It has grills, restrooms and an open area for recreational games. A playground is adjacent to the group picnic area. Isaac W. Bernheim stated that "No distinction will be shown between rich or poor, white or colored. Every respectable man, woman, and child will be made welcome, and all will be treated with an equal consideration." We ask that you honor his wishes in both your speech and actions.
